This song makes me feel like I'm on a deserted platform (never mind what kind of platform), with the darkened station behind me; in the distance an ugly city flatulates throat-peeling gases from its smokestacks into the purplish-blue early evening sky. Hostile (or celebratory) voices echo through the side streets down below. And I am standing on the edge, and I hear this song emerging, tinny, like an itchy needle, from a gray brownstone window.
